2013 Job Fair Attracted Over 300 Job Seekers

Employment Connection hosted Job Development Network's (JDN) 27th Annual Job Fair November 14th 2013, which attracted over 300 job seekers. The event, held in the Al Sigl gymnasium at 1000 Elmwood Avenue, targeted people with disabilities and disadvantages, including veterans and featured nearly two dozen employers interested in diversifying their workforce.

People with disabilities often lack opportunities for employment and may face misconceptions from employers who view a disability as a weakness instead of an asset. According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for working-age people with disabilities is nearly twice the rate of their non-disabled peers and are hit hardest by a struggling economy.

JDN is an association of employment professionals from nonprofit agencies, education sites, government organizations, and private employers that provides opportunities for networking, sharing expertise, and developing related strategies for members to better meet the employment needs of job seekers with disabilities and disadvantages.
