PDFWheels Coach PositionVolunteer Coach Needed for Rochester Wheels
The Rochester Wheels is searching for a new coach for its 17-member adult wheelchair basketball team. This is a volunteer position based in Rochester, NY.
Formed in 1972, the Rochester Wheels adult wheelchair basketball team has continued to demonstrate the significant abilities of athletes with disabilities through competition, tournaments, and exhibition games.
The Rochester Wheels partners with SportsNet, a program of Rochester Rehabilitation. An Executive Committee comprised of team players and community members with wheelchair basketball experience, works with SportsNet staff to achieve the following mission:

To ensure that the sport of wheelchair basketball is accessible to anyone who wants to play. Opportunities are provided for instruction, recreational play and a competitive team(s). We are committed to consistent communication around the management of program and team activities.
Job Summary:
The coach of the Rochester Wheels should be able to demonstrate:
- Effective team leadership
- Ability to mentor players as well as promote skill development
- Willingness to attend all practices and travel with team to out of town games
- Accurate record-keeping
- Ability to communicate with governing bodies, e.g. National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA), other teams, and partnering entities in an effective, appropriate and professional manner
- Adequate commitment of both time and energy to meet the needs of the team (includes weekly practices, travel to tournaments, monthly Executive Committee meetings)

SportsNet - an inclusive sports and recreation program of the nonprofit agency Rochester Rehabilitation - has served more than 4,000 members of the community since its founding in 1998. People of all abilities participate in local sporting events and recreational activities such as wheelchair basketball, cycling, outrigger canoeing and sled hockey through SportsNet's continued access to new adaptive equipment.
