SportsNetNY.org Wins Marketing Award for Inspirational Stories

February 28, 2012

SportsNet was recently recognized for its website of inspirational stories by the internationally renowned Internet radio program (podcast) "Marketing Over Coffee." The program has more than 1,000 daily listeners who are primarily marketing professionals. The award seeks to honor those who have done exemplary work in marketing over the past year. Often the winners sit at the intersection of marketing and technology, having identified a future trend and put it to work. Kristine Bruneau, writer and marketing consultant accepted the award on behalf of SportsNetNY.org and SportsNet.

Rochester Rehabilitation President and CEO Cynthia Huether says: “The award is a terrific honor for Kris Bruneau and her team. SportsNet is a valued program in the Greater Rochester community. When Kris shared the concept of a dedicated story sharing site, I thought it was fresh and exciting. It’s important because people of all abilities want to know what others are doing to live healthy and be active. Here they can connect with SportsNet, share stories with family and friends, and donate online.

Since the “13 Stories for 13 Years” campaign launched in May, 2011 it has raised more than 72% of its goal of $65,000. Integral to its success is email marketing. A new story is delivered to program participants, supporters, and interested individuals each month via an email that encourages sharing on social media sites. Corporate underwriting and foundation giving has also played a significant role in meeting fundraising goals.
