Mental Health >> Men’s Education for Non-Violence Workshop
The program philosophy is that the participants are solely responsible for their behavior. A primary Workshop goal is to educate participants about the consequences and impact of their behavior on their partners and children so that the men may consider changing their abusive behaviors and attitudes.
Weekly 1½ hour educational group sessions are offered for a minimum of six months but involvement may continue for up to a year. Two facilitators conduct each Workshop session.
Although the staff of the program does believe that men do have the capacity to change, caution is necessary because participation in this program does not automatically mean that the abuse will stop. Change will only occur if the participant is willing to work very hard and accept the fact that he is solely responsible for the abuse and for the change.
The program is designed to work exclusively with the abusive man to facilitate the abuser accepting responsibility for his own behavior.
In addition to direct services, the MEN’s Workshop also provides a community education component as well as professional training.
