Vocational Counseling Services at OutSource

The goal of the Vocational Counseling Services is to provide persons with disabilities:

• Vocational evaluation of work readiness
• Assistance in preparation for employment
• Placement in a job matching their vocational abilities

The Vocational Counseling Services provides programs, which help individuals prepare for placement in:

• Community Rehabilitation Program – supports individuals in sustaining work in a supportive setting.
• NOW (New Opportunities for Work) – an employment readiness and preparation service that assists interested persons in identifying their vocational interests, specifying employment options, and in improving their job search methods. This service is specifically designed to assist persons in their potential transition from a supportive work setting into competitive work environments.
• Competitive employment

OutSource

Vocational Counseling Services are delivered to people who are enrolled in the supportive work program at OutSource.

OutSource is a community rehabilitation program in which products are built and service contracts are performed for companies in the Rochester area.

Participants are paid for their work based on their individual productivity.

This method of work allows participants to be evaluated, by a counselor on their general employment skills, while they are actually working.

Once general skills have been assessed, the counselor and individual jointly develop a vocational plan. The plan identifies employment-related goals the individual needs to improve upon in order to attain his/her longer-term job goal.

Counselors may also help the individual by connecting them with other services they need to be successful in employment.

The Staff

The Counseling and Services staff includes professionals trained in counseling, psychology and other disciplines. Many have several years of experience in the job placement arena and are well connected to the employment and training opportunities available in our community. Staff are proficient in English/Spanish.
